Job Details

The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development is seeking a dynamic and high energy Senior Executive to lead its Department for Business Development. We are seeking an experienced leader to help cultivate the economic development eco-system across Kentucky by promoting a pro-business culture and supporting new investment, job creation and retention.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attract new investment in Kentucky through effective economic activities and provide assistance and guidance to existing companies who are currently operating in Kentucky.
  • Maintain a strong network of partnerships with regional, city and other local economic development offices, utilities, state and local elected officials, and other federal organizations.
  • Lead, train and motivate a highly skilled team of project managers and work closely with the Cabinet Secretary, Governor and other Cabinets to provide responsive service to customers.
  • Represent the Commonwealth at trade shows, conferences, business symposiums and economic development associations.
  • Travel to give presentations to business executives on the merits of Kentucky.
  • Speak at conferences, events and panels representing the Cabinet.
  • Possess a sense of urgency and ability to prioritize projects to competitively serve companies making location and expansion decisions.
  • Nurture relationships with a wide array of customers in different industries, communities and cultures.
  • Effectively and responsively address customer problems and pursue viable solutions.
  • Identify, gather and analyze market indicators to measure and monitor economic development activities.
  • Work closely with other teams within the Administration to support Department and Cabinet Goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree, preferably in business, economics, marketing or a related field.
  • 5+ years of sales management experience in an Economic Development agency, a consulting firm, or a company that has a long sales cycle. B2B Experience with large contracts, large accounts, consultative sales, serving multiple business sectors a real plus!
  • Proven record of accomplishment in senior level supervisory and leadership roles.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, competitive spirit needed to work with senior executives of some of the largest companies in the country. Must also be comfortable working with small companies in rural communities.
  • Willing to travel and work after normal business hours.
Work Schedule: Full Time
Location: Frankfort, KY
