Job Details

The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development is seeking a dynamic and high-energy senior executive to join our team as an Executive Director to lead its Office of Marketing and Public Affairs. This position is a member of our executive team reporting to the Cabinet Secretary and is responsible for leading an award-winning graphics and public relations team and supporting business development for Kentucky through marketing and communications activities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Organize and oversee advertising/communication campaigns, exhibitions and promotional events
  • Conduct market research and analysis to evaluate trends, brand awareness and competition ventures
  • Lead, train and motivate a highly-skilled, professional communications staff working on media inquiries/responses, news releases, social media posts, magazine articles, brochure copy, annual reports, leadership briefings (economic development events/meetings), etc.
  • Lead, train and motivate a highly-skilled, professional staff of graphic designers preparing all of the cabinet’s graphic needs and creative work, including but not limited to social media posts, website design/code, presentations/PowerPoints, brochure/magazine design, personalized marketing materials for prospects, etc.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of half-dozen websites
  • Collaborate with Governor’s Office staff on initiatives involving economic development
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders such as any outside marketing agencies and media vendors
  • Organize monthly webinars conducted by the Cabinet Secretary informing economic development representatives across Kentucky about various Cabinet initiatives
  • Identify, gather and analyze market indicators to measure and monitor economic development activities
  • Work closely with other Cabinets/Agencies and economic development organizations to support the Cabinet’s goals
Experience preferences, minimum requirements:
  • 7+ years of proven experience as a marketing executive, communications executive or similar role
  • Good understanding of market research techniques, data analysis and statistic methods
  • Thorough knowledge of marketing best practices
  • Familiarity with social media and web analytics
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and people skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Proven record of accomplishment in senior level supervisory and leadership roles
Education preferences, minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor degree, preferably in business, economics, marketing, communications or a related field
Salary (approximate, depending on experience): $80K - $100K
Work Schedule: Full Time (Mon - Fri; 37.5 hrs/wk)
Location: Frankfort, KY
Must be willing to travel and work after normal business hours.
